›How does technology transience affect you?

Technological transience has been an issue for me as a teacher candidate. I am familiar with how to use most technological devices but unaware of how many there are and the unlimited opportunities they provide. I feel panicked some times with the amount of technological devices there are and how many different functions there are. Before it was just learning the tool, now it has become creating ones own technological tool. Also, what I found difficult is keeping up with the students and their 2st century learning. Students have been brought up with the internet and technology and so I find it a struggle to keep up with the latest technology. An example for me is when my computer crashed right after my undergrad graduation. I had bought my computer about two years before and used it as frequently as possible. All of my resources and assignments disappeared. My lack of knowledge caused me not to back up my computer. My brother immediately came with me to buy an external hard drive so that I could save my work. This was a troubling learning curve for me and have learned my lesson after that.
›How does it connect to what we’ve discussed in this course?
Technological transience relates to TPACK and SAMR. By applying theses theories into our instruction, students will be able to use technology which they are familiar with to create, replace or transform their learning. This is correlated with 21st century competencies. Technology is ever changing and so we need to try to keep up with student’s new language and interest.
›What can we do to prepare for teaching with technology given the issue of technology transience?
As educators, as life long learners, we need to take it upon ourselves to continue to research to find new technologies that can be useful in the classroom. It is inevitable to avoid technology. It is our responsibility to find new and creative ways to engage our students in learning so by using technology, we are appealing to the interests and 21st century learning they grew up in. In order for students to get the most out of their learning, we as educators need access to different technological tools. We are advocates for our student’s learning.
